What does Boyda plan to do about Social Security? Some of us aren't independently wealthy and would like to know her plan. If she hasn't heard Social Security is going bankrupt, eventually there will be two workers paying in for every retiree. At least Jenkins is willing to talk about the problem. As I recall Boyda was not going to raise my taxes either, but she already has. So I guess both are liars.
I don't think this is really about SS... so much as its about Lynn Jenkins breaking her promises. If she's doing it before she's elected how can we count on her to keep promises if she's elected?
i don't know if the other commenters are being sarcastic, but i really am surprised by this. I mean, everything i've heard about jenkins said she was a fiscal conservative and this flys in the face of that.
Patrick, how can you say that? She said the best way to fix the system is to have people pay more into it -- eg raise social security taxes. Is that what she MEANT? Who knows. But it's what she SAID.
Tell me how is Boyda going to pay for Medicare and Social Security.
And for those wanting the Obama or Clinton healthcare plans .... how are they going to be paid for? And don't use the ... allowing Bush tax cuts to expire because it will never cover the cost of either of their plans .... let alone increased costs for Medicare and Social Security
Remember both Clinton and Obama promised not to raise taxes on anyone making under $250,000.
I agree. I think this is way more about the fact that she is breaking her promise to Kansans than it is about taxes. I for one am fine with taxes, I'm ok with paying my fair share, but I think saying one thing either to get money or to get one set of votes and saying another to get another set of votes is disingenuous.
That's the thing about Boyda and Ryun. Say you don't agree with either of their policies but at least they never lie to anyone about where they stand.

This my friends, is what those of us in the business call a "pivot." Nice try, Patrick, but we're going to stay on topic here.
As for taxes, I agree it might just be a good policy. But then again, I'm a liberal Democrat, we'll see how the voters in the Republican primary feel.

ReplyDeleteHAHAHA ... niiiice
ReplyDeletedon't figures say SS is solvent for another 60-odd years?
ReplyDeletethis is the first major mess-up by either of the republicans running. honestly, i didn't think it would come from jenkins.
ReplyDeletedamn....tax increases and dumb on illegal immigration.
ReplyDeleteis this woman a Democrat or something?

ReplyDeleteWOW, I NEVER expected this from Jenkins either what a shame

ReplyDeleteshe lost my vote today.
let's not stretch and twist the truth - if you watch the entire clip in context, you'd realize that she didn't break her promise to not raise taxes

Jenkins might be making a principled stand on social security...I don't care. She said she wouldnt raise taxes, but now she says she will.

Interesting that anyone who challenges Boyda or a Democrats position is assumed to be a part of someone's campaign.
ReplyDeleteWrong guess this time.
regardless of who you might be with it is still funny the Rs won't talk about this on face value: Jenkins lied
ReplyDeleteAnd Boyda didn't .... she voted to let tax cuts expire ..... thus increasing tax on many Americans
ReplyDeleteno Botha didnt lie- she said she wouldnt increase taxes on average Americans- and she hasn't
ReplyDeleteJenkins inthe other hand promised CIA her anti tax pledge to not advocate tax increases on any Americans...and she now has
Only one liar in this debate.
