Watch your mailboxes (if you live in the 2nd District of Kansas)- Congresswoman Nancy Boyda's office has sent out a bulletin detailing her work to halt illegal immigration and on trade issue she confronted in her first year in Congress.
Just a couple of the items from the mailer: Boyda was one of the only Democrats to oppose efforts in the House and Senate to grant amnesty to illegal immigration, and Boyda successfully pushed a bill to near- unanimous approval to prevent a Bush Administration plan to allow unsafe Mexican trucks to drive deep into the United States.
Another issue Boyda mentions in her mailer has continued to garner her press mentions: her bill to require the renegotiation of NAFTA:
Boyda and Kaptur, the lead sponsors, aren’t waiting for the study. They want NAFTA renegotiated, now. If the negotiations do not produce 5 specific, concrete improvements, the bill says the U.S. must withdraw from NAFTA.One thing is undeniable: Congresswoman Nancy Boyda is representing her district better than it has seen since the early 1990's, particularly on illegal immigration and on trade.
"NAFTA is dragging down our economy, weakening our borders, and devastating our manufacturers. After 14 years, it's time to either fix NAFTA or get the heck out of it,” Boyda, the lead sponsor, told a radio show in Wichita, announcing the bill. “Even supporters admit NAFTA is deeply flawed, but nobody had the guts to fix the problem.”
(Note: We still plan a year end round-up...sorry to keep putting it off!)

If Congress would quit screwing around with the funding for the border fence we could begin to stem the tide of illegal aliens pouring in from Mexico. Border security first coupled with harsh employer penalties, followed by deportations of illegal aliens.
Boyda has voted to fully fund the border fence, just so you're aware
Thanks. I searched her official website but couldn't find anything on the subject.
I haven't heard her speak out on funding the border fence. Haven't heard her say a word about almost none of the fence has been built and how Congress removed the funding for the fence.
Why is she not making a bigger issue of it?
Because most of her constituents believe the fence was funded and want it built.
check this link for Boyda's votes on illegal immigration- scroll down the page and it details her vote to run the border fence.

i'm having a hard time this morning hahah
Thanks for the great link. I had no idea that Boyda had done so much on the illegal immigration issue.
Considering how well she did in just her first year in office, I wonder what Ryun and Jenkins are gonna attack her with? Other than walking out on that bozo General they've got nothing on her.
But the Democratic led Congress has NOT funded the fence, funding for it was removed from the budget.
Is amnesty her districts wish???

Ryun- Boyda debate heats up
Topeka Capital-Journal, The, Oct 3, 2006 by Chris Moon

THE CAPITAL-JOURNAL
U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun on Monday accused his Democratic opponent of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants, a claim Nancy Boyda vehemently denied.
In a feisty debate on a Topeka radio show, Boyda said Ryun was "trying to put words in my mouth."
"How dare you tell people I stand for amnesty?" said an irritated Boyda. "That just bugs the living daylights out of me."
But the Democratic candidate from Topeka said she did favor a "clear path to citizenship" for people who had entered the United States illegally.
"It's a form of amnesty," Ryun said.
Ryun said he hadn't taken a position on whether illegal immigrants currently in the Untied States should be offered a method to become citizens. Instead, he said the country should focus on shoring up border security to keep illegals out to begin with. He also said penalties should be toughened against businesses who hire illegal immigrants.
Boyda took much the same approach - favoring more border security and business penalties. But she said she favored offering a plan for illegal immigrants to obtain citizenship. She said she didn't know what steps they should have to take to accomplish that.
The two candidates appeared Monday on Jim Cates' radio talk show on AM-1440 for their first broadcast debate in Topeka. The testiness between the candidates was similar to their race two years ago, when the five-term congressman won by 15 percentage points despite a well- funded campaign by Boyda.
