Jim Ryun made it official today, filing the papers for his run to take back Kansas' second district seat in Congress.

The Republican Ryun pitched a clean campaign idea to his primary opponent, state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins. Ryun said he'll agree to not mention Jenkins' name in any advertisements if Jenkins will do the same.

In his announcement, Ryun cited Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: "Thou Shall Not Speak Ill of a Fellow Republican."

No word yet on whether Jenkins will accept the deal. She's yet to file for office (filing closes at noon Tuesday).

Ryun, of course, knows full well Jenkins can't agree to such a thing- the only thing she has in her arsenal is the fact Ryun was a piss-poor Member of the United States Congress. With that said, it's always good to set up your opponent to look like a meany...but, really, will anyone anywhere in the district be sympathetic to Jim Ryun if Lynn Jenkins reminds us all for the next several months how miserable he was?

UPDATE: So, it appears Lynn's not only ignoring Ryun's request, she's being as dirty as she can be:
"There's no question that Jim is in denial," said Jenkins campaign spokesman Josh Hersh. "Between 2004 and 2006, 60,000 voters chose change over Jim Ryun."
This is going to be fun!
