Lynn Jenkins and her 13-room mansion

We must have hit a cord.

Yesterday's post about Jim Ryun and Lynn Jenkins giving themselves fist fulls of money that had been given to their campaigns certainly garnered a lot of attention- as we expected.

Thing is, it didn't come from the candidate we expected it to come from. No, people didn't rush to Jim Ryun's aid, telling us why it makes perfect sense for him to have given himself $17,000 out of his campaign treasury. Instead, it was Lynn Jenkins who people (or, perhaps, one very prolific person) came out to aid, pointing out the fact Lynn Jenkins isn't independently wealthy like Nancy Boyda, so, of course she couldn't afford to just suck it up and use her own money to pay for her campaign- related expenses (like Nancy Boyda does).

Excuse me?

This blog won't deny the Boydas have money- that would be silly. Anymore, anyone running for federal office has got to be wealthy to even make it out of the gate. It is also ridiculous- simply out-of-sight stupid- to say Lynn Jenkins and her husband aren't also a pair of really wealthy cats.

In fact, Lynn Jenkins, the Treasurer of the State of Kansas (annual salary of $83,905), lives in the very most affluent neighborhood in Topeka (Clarion Woods), and, in fact, owns a 13-room mansion, fully equipped with four full bathrooms and seven- yes seven- bedrooms.

Oh, don't forget the two fireplaces, finished basement & attic (about 4,000 sq. ft. total)- worth just shy of $300,000.

Also, recall Lynn also gave herself $100,000 in the 2nd quarter this year...not something a non-wealthy person could ever do.

Perhaps because someone posted, also, that this blog was getting as biased as the conservative blogs (cut to the quick!), we'll happily source the above info: all verbatim from the Shawnee County Appraiser's Office. Never say we don't source our statements.

Oh, also, we dare you to look up the Boyda's house in Topeka- go ahead, compare.

NOTE: This should be clear- this doesn't make Lynn Jenkins a bad person or unqualified to be a member of Congress- after all, both Jim Ryun and Nancy Boyda are well-to-do as well- it is just awfully disingenuous to say Lynn isn't also a very wealthy lady- maybe even the richest person race.

Jenkins is no where near the richest person in the race, check the financial disclosure reports the candidates have to file. Drive by Jenkins house and it is not a mansion, it is valued at $299,000 according to your source. There are also several much more affluent developments in Topeka. BB, get you facts straight.

Clarion is the BY FAR the most affluent part of Topeka.

"Anonymous" is the one that needs to get their facts straight.

Since we are into cites. Here is the link to Nancy Boyda's personal financial disclosure filed with the House. http://www.legistorm.com/memberdisclosure/Rep_Nancy_Boyda/821.html The document is over 60 pages long, but adds up to well over $2 million of net worth, and that doesn't inlcude any property, which isn't required if it is her "personal residence", so I guess she's claiming her JoCo property as her personal residence. I guess Moore might have a primary challeng on his hands

Sorry. New Link to Nancy's Millions http://www.legistorm.com/memberdisclosure/Rep_Nancy_Boyda/821.html

You obviously haven't been to Topeka for awhile. Check out Clarion Lakes, McFarland farm, and Jene Jani's developments, Westboro. Clarion is down the list a ways.

and i don't think anyone is saying Boyda isn't wealthy...just saying Lynn is, too.

Are all of you trying to maintain that she is not? No, you're trying to spin the point away from what it is: Lynn Jenkins is wealthy- just like the Boydas are and the Ryuns are.

Anonymous said...

oh, and Boyda sold her JoCo house in '04...lives in Topeka with her husband right now today- idiot

Anonymous said...

What is your definition of wealthy?

Anonymous said...

There is a big difference between having a nice income and being wealthy. Democrats should be able to figure that out.

Anonymous said...

Are you people honestly trying to say Lynn Jenkins hasn't got money?

Are you f*cking kidding me?

Anonymous said...

Idiot - look at the disclosure reports.

Anonymous said...

Nancy Boyda and her ambulance chasing husband Steve .... are trying to deny they are rich. Yeah I guess your average now in Kansas when you have $2 million excluding personal property.

Another difference .... Lynn Jenkins actually lives in her home.

Anonymous said...

the batshit crazy comments...where do you think boyda lives, the moon?

i don't think the blogger denies the Boyda's got money...but it is foolish to keep saying again and again Jenkins doesn't- because OBVIOUSLY SHE DOES!

Anonymous said...

could any of the people defending Jenkins link to something that proves she's dirt poor?

Anything?

Anonymous said...

Typical Democrat, too lazy to look up a finance report.

Anonymous said...

do candidates even have to file personal finance reports this early? I know Boyda has one on file, and I imagine Ryun does, too...but I don't think on probably exists for Jenkins.

So now that we have concluded that everyone in the race is wealthy, the next question is who would you rather have represent you in Congress: Someone who got their wealth from a corrupt lobbyist, someone who married it a couple of years ago, or someone who started with nothing and earned it rpkmbuzover a 20 year career.

I'm sorry, I just can't accept the fact that you can get a 7br house for less than 300k

Anonymous said...

It doesn't have seven bedrooms it as 4, unless you count a den or a dining room, only one fireplace not 2 and it is B grade construction. boyda bloc is just doing what they were told to do, which is attack Jenkins, instead of Ryun. Boyda wants to run against ryun.

Anonymous said...

....i dunno what the last comment was talking about, but i went to the link in the post and it says 7 bedrooms & 2 fireplaces, so, you know, whatever lies you want to spew rocks.

Ryun and Jenkins made their money either from corrupt lobbyists (Ryun) or via taxpayer funded paychecks (Jenkins & Ryun). At least Boyda & her husband worked for their money...

Jenkins has only been a full time elected office holder for less then 5 years, spent 16 years in private enterprise. I guess you are saying all the other state workers are don't deserve their paychecks. Can't defend Ryun, but as far as Boyda, her husband got rich by suing business, namely railroad companies and also investing in the stock market taking big risks. Not sure that is working hard for the money. But believe what you want. I have been to Jenkins house, it is not that great and only has one fireplace and 4 bedrooms.

Anonymous said...

Yea, she's in the phone book, why don't you call for a tour. Boyda must be scared of Jenkins to attack her personal residence, getting a little low dems.

Anonymous said...

You have to admit, this is comical how desperate Boyda is. They've got plenty to say on Jim, but the best they can do on Lynn is that the kid who grew up on a farm has an above average priced home in Topeka. Hillarious. Jenkins is going to destroy this clown.

its shocking how thin skinned the jenkins people are...I mean, really- this post was just one of bunches, and looks like it was written specifically to respond to a off-the-wall comment.

the comments here are just as weird- lots of ignoring the point and making a new one.

in the end: the post wasn't mean, the post didn't say lynn couldn't be in congress, it just said, plainly, jenkins has money, too...that's not mean or insulting, it just is stating plain facts. Why spend all this time denying it?

Anyone who knows anything about the appraisal process knows that any enclosed room in a finished area of your home that has a window (ie den, home office, etc.) is counted as a bedroom.

I have a home office that's in a finished area of my basement ..... county appraiser counts it as a bedroom. Was told that they counted it this way because it has a window and could be used as a bedroom.

Anonymous said...

I too have been to the Jenkins' home. It is a nice home but it is in no way a mansion. How ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

i think it was called a "mansion" for dramatic effect...the point of the blog was that lynn obviously isn't a poor person like some commenters were making her out to be

that's just a hunch.

Anonymous said...

no on claimed she was poor .... just not a millionaire like Boyda
