FEC Analysis: Lynn Jenkins has nothing to smile about

On top of not even breaking the 25% mark (and barely rating better than Congresswoman Nancy Boyda) in a poll of Republican Party activists in a poll taken at the Republican Party caucus last Saturday, State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins filed the most depressing, most disappointing, and the most tear-jerkingly hilarious FEC finance report of anyone running for Congress in Kansas- including State Sen. Nick Jordan! (and that's saying something, folks...).

Our favorite CPA raised a sum that can only be describe as embarrassing- barely $90,000. What happened this quarter is beyond us- she's been able to hold her own against Congresswoman Boyda and Jim Ryun up to this point, but obviously something dramatic changed.

  • Perhaps she decided doing the job Kansans already elected her to was more important (but that's not likely, knowing Lynn).
  • Or maybe the money just dried up because it's clear she isn't qualified to do the job.
  • Or maybe she's the Fred Thompson of Kansas, and will lose because she's too lazy to do it right.
Regardless the reason, $90,000 raised is a shockingly small amount of money- particularly when you take into account her disbursements for the quarter show she spent $12,307.59 on a fundraising consultant.

What is it they did for you, Lynn? Doesn't it hurt your little CPA soul to hire someone to help you with money?

Her only other major expenditure was payroll for her campaign manager, Patrick Leopold, who took home a little over $12,000 in the quarter...for doing what, no one in the district knows.

It certainly does look like the wheels are coming off the bus over at the Jenkins Camp, with disasters ranging from a shockingly poor finance report to next to no enthusiasm for her at Kansas Days to getting trounced in straw polls on caucus day- pretty obvious she's got nothing to smile about.

All of that makes us wonder: When is Lynn Jenkins going to call it quits? When will our lightweight State Treasurer realize she's in over her head and withdraw?

Only time will tell.

LOL.....Why are Boyda Bloc's Jenkins posts always better than the Ryun posts? I would think that Ryun would be an easier target than Jenkins, but for some reason Lynn lends herself to comedy much better than Jimmy.

People realize that Jenkins is the Republican who can win in August and November. Why waste attacks on someone who is going to lose?

Jim's going to win in November...because jenkins just doesn't have the resources to make it the long haul.

I don't understand the last post? Jenkins has more cash on hand to spend than Ryun does?

doesn't take long to run out of money when you aren't taking any in

"doesn't take long to run out of money when you aren't taking any in"

Trust a Democrat to only look at only one side of the ledger.

Receipts net of expenses:

4th Qtr 2007:
Ryun $30,131
Jenkins $55,473

YTD:
Ryun $364,789
Jenkins $416,242

(And these are apples to apples since both candidates put in the EXACT same amount. Ryun's came from his failed bid last cycle. Jenkins' matched his with personal funds.)

silly republicans forget she didn't raise even half has much as Jim or Nancy did in the fourth quarter.

so sad.

And how much did Jim spend in that same time period compared to Jenkins and Boyda?

If Jenkins was not a threat to Boyda and was expected to drop out of the race, why would the DNC/Boyda campaign hire a full time person to follow her around to her campaign stops?? They have a guy filming all of her campaign speeches. She even introduces him to the audience so they know that he is there representing the Dems. Can't wait to see the out of context comments. By the way, Boyda jumped on the earmark bandwagon because Jenkins is running on eliminating them all together. Boyda heard that in the first speech the DNC guy taped. Convenient timing, or another flip flop on position. Why did Boyda wait until after she gave 38 million in earmarks out before she voted to stop the insanity until it is cleaned up. Don't forget this is our money she is spending, not the governments. Boyda is in trouble and they know it, she and Steve will go ballistic before this race is over. Matching wits with Jenkins is a whole lot harder than Ryun. Wait and see.

Ok, stupid. the guy following jenkins around works for the state party, not boyda.

2nd, was lynn jenkins running for congress when nancy voted for the most significant earmark reform bill in history last january? no. jenkins is just following nancy's lead, not the other way around.

and, i hope to god she isn't serious about eliminating earmarks, because i know my city police needs the equipment nancy helped them get.

Seems like a lot of paranoia on Boyda's and the DNC's part.

If Boyda is doing so well in her campaign why does she have to have people stalking Jenkins' campaign events?

I thought according to this and other sites .... that no one knows who Lynn Jenkins is and she is neither a threat to Jim Ryun or Nancy Boyda. Hmmmmmmm. Why would you spend money and time stalking someone who is not a threat?

Ok, I may stand corrected .... it is the Democratic state party that is concerned about her prospects in the next election.

I must be that 43% approval rating that they are concerned about. The honeymoon for Boyda has sure been short.

Wouldn't it be better to not send the money to DC and then have to fight for earmarks to get it back? Let's keep our money in Kansas and let cities and towns all decide where they want to spend the money, not Washington Bureaucrats. Typical Dems, take our money and then give it back pennies on the dollar and brag about what they did for us. Buying votes with our own money is pathetic.

helping kansans with money they would have never had otherwise isn't pathetic, and only anti-american republicans would think otherwise.

boyda's approval rating is 61%, asswipes.

oh, and the last poll we've seen of jim's had him right at 47%...in Nov. of 2006.

Anonymous said...

Does Boyda poll on her approval rating every week? Just a couple of weeks ago it was supposedly in the 40's? Maybe the 60% is democrats only? Starting your posts with a bodily function slur, doesn't lend well to your credibility.

"helping Kansas with money they would never had otherwise" Isn't this taxpayer money Boyda is spending? That money is ours to begin with! The problem with earmarks is that Boyda had to vote for a bunch of other earmarks that did not make good use of OUR money in order to get her earmarks approved for her district. For every water project, their is a teapot (or prison museum), or a bridge to nowhere. Earmarks are simply ways to buy our vote with our own money. Saying the money is already in the budget and will be spent anyway is ludicrous. Let's give that money back to the taxpayer or the states and let them decide where to spend it, not Congressmen trying to buy votes.

say whatever you want, my AFP friend, but this money was in the budget already, and someone was going to get to use it...it should be Kansas and not North Dakota.

Also, I don't want the petty politicians in topeka doling out this money to win THEIR elections..but I'm sure you'd tell me that they never would do such a thing...

Jenkins is doomed...because the Republicans in the Second District won't pick a liberal, pro-choice woman over Jim Ryun.

She needs to realize that and drop out.

Show us where this poll is posted. I would like to read it. Unless this poll only exists in your mind.

You might want to look at previous elections ..... Lynn Jenkins has done well time after time in her elections in Republican areas and with Republicans both conservative and moderate.

Anonymous said...

the only poll that matters- ever- is the one that showed boyda at 51 and ryun at 47.

it was taking by a couple hundred thousand people last nov.

Anonymous said...

Well that is past history ..... I would say Boyda's most important polls are the one's that show her with a 41% approval rating right now.

Anonymous said...

that isn't a real poll, and you know it.

Anonymous said...

Why won't the Boyda folks or state party release the poll results?

Anonymous said...

because there's nothing to release, that's why
