Boyda signs "No Robo-Calls" pledge

Congresswoman Nancy Boyda announced yesterday she had signed a pledge to not conduct robocalls of her constituents who have signed the new National Political Do Not Contact (NPDNC) registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org during the 2008 campaign season.

"The foundation of our democracy is the belief that voters should be in control," Boyda said. "Voters should be able to choose not to receive political 'robo' calls."
Boyda is only the second member of Congress to sign the pledge.

From the press release issued by Boyda's office, Shaun Dakin, found and CEO of StopPoliticalCalls.org, congratulated Boyda for taking "the first decisive step" in letting citizens decide how they want people running for office to interact with them.
"We are extremely pleased that Representative Boyda has agreed not to robocall constituents that sign up on the National Political Do Not Contact Registry," said Shaun Dakin, founder and CEO. "She has taken the first decisive step in what I believe to be the crucial effort of giving voters back their privacy and peace and quiet in their own homes. Her constituents are fortunate to have her fighting for this cause in Washington."
It's deeply disappointing only two member of Congress have pledged to stop using campaign robocalls. Not only are they invasive and annoying, some of the very dirtiest campaigning occurs via robo calls, and they need to be discouraged. We hope every member of the Kansas delegation and every person running for federal office in Kansas agrees to honor the wishes of those who register with StopPoliticalCalls.org.

We look forward to telling you when Jim Ryun and Lynn Jenkins follow Congresswoman Boyda's example- or, lacking that, telling you why they won't honor the wishes of the people they hope to represent.

I'd like to know what kind of person actually listens to a recorded telephone call. When I answer the phone and am greeted with a recorded message, or even worse a message saying to stay on the line for an important message, I immediately hang up. If you don't respect me enough to have a live person call me, then I don't care about your message.

actually...i do listen to recorded political calls...but just because i'm interested to know what's being said.

i'm sure i'm one of a very very very small club.

So you're in the small minority of listeners who are listening to see what "the enemy" is up to, but what about the other 95%? Are they just old people who are happy to get a phone call? Most of my friends don't even answer the phone if they don't recognize the number on the caller ID, so it boggles my mind that people would actually listen to a robo-call.

for sure, absolutely...it's a bad use of campaign effort

The question is ..... is Nancy Boyda also discouraging organizations who would make calls on her behalf to not use robo-calling.

All she is saying is she won't do it ..... could be DNC, ACLU, unions, etc. instead robo-calling on her behalf

no, that's not the question. the question is whether or not jim ryun and lynn jenkins will follow her lead.

we can talk about third party groups later

Anonymous said...

it's easy to say you won't do it .... heck the Presidential campaigns have shown that you just deny knowledge of anything when a surrogate group does it

I mean Hillary didn't release the picture of Obama and she hasn't made the inflammatory comments ..... but those with ties to her have.

Makes this pledge meaningless since candidates camapigns themselves aren't normally the one's conducting robo-calls.

that's not true at all...both ryun and boyda did robocalls in 2006.

try to misdirect as much as you want, but the pledge is a good government action, that both ryun and jenkins should do, too.

Jenkins is the only one in this race who has never done robocalls. Why should she pledge to not do something she hasn't done and was never going to do in the first place?? How about a no earmark pledge?

Anonymous said...

just because she's never done it, she shouldn't promise not to? wha...?

she's never secured an earmark...she promised not to do that, so we know that's not the logic you're really using...you just don't think she should be tied down like other candidates.

no dice..she should promise to follow the fill of any of her would-be constituents who sign up.

absolutely...what's the matter, lynn, chicken?

This blog is getting down right ridiculous. If Lynn were chicken, would she run against Ryun, Boyda, Club for Growth, the NRA, KRA, DNCC I could go on and on. She has more balls than the writers of this blog do. Didn't this same blog say the earmark pledge was silly, how is the no call pledge any different. It is just grandstanding.

Oh, lonely Jenkins supporter...take a breath. I never read a post that said the earmark pledge was "silly"...i think the point that was made was more like "jim ryun's a hypocrite"

call this whatever you want, but i'm willing to call it what it is most certainly: a group has started a registry of people who do not wish to be called with political robocalls. Congresswoman Boyda has promised to obey their wishes.

i think that's stand up of her- and both lynn and jim should do the same. NOT because nancy boyda did, but because it's what those people on that registry want.

we can be reasonable about this.

Why does Governor Sebelius dislike Nancy Boyda so much?
