Where's Jim? Getting ready for a trip to California!

First Hawaii. Then Florida.

Now, Jim "Campaigning Full-time" Ryun as found a campaign trail in Kansas that somehow leads him to sunny California.

This time, though, it isn't a running event, so he isn't trotting out that old celebrity. Instead, he's tossing out a title he doesn't have anymore as takes up the prestigious honor as the headliner at the The 23rd annual Community Leaders Prayer Breakfast for the Christian Business Men's Connection on April 11 in Redding, California.

The special guest speaker will be Jim Ryun, a Republican congressman from Kansas. Ryun received national acclaim as a track and field star and won a silver medal in the 1500 meter run in the 1968 Olympics.
So, they did trot out the "he's a track star!" line, but the bit that's more upsetting is that they call him a "Republican congressman from Kansas."

He used to be a Republican congressman from Kansas. The voters of Kansas made it pretty clear they didn't want him to have that title when they handed him a defeat just as stunning as the one he suffered in the '68 Olympics.

And don't even get us started on how icky is it he's speaking at a "men's only" event...

Ten bucks says he gets paid for it and ten bucks says he reimburses himself for the tickets from campaign funds.

I love the conspiracy theories posted here. Don't tell me-you all live in your parents' basements, wear tinfoil hats and just know that the government is out to get you.
Unlike Nancy Boyda and her trial lawyer husband, Ryun isn't personally wealthy. I am sure speaking engagements like this one help cover the bills.
BTW-"icky"? What, are teenage girls writing this blog?

At least Ryun is speaking while in CA. Unlike Obama's recent jaunt to the Virgin Islands. . . .Which is close to Puerto Rico, relatively speaking.

Um, Ryun lives at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence...pretty posh digs for someone who isn't personally wealthy. Not to mention a half-million dollar beltway townhouse.

Plus, he drives a Mercury Mountaineer, if he wasn't wealthy, he'd have gone for the Explorer.

I don't have a problem with Jim Ryun getting paid to do speaking events, its a free country. What i have a problem is Jim Ryun's campaign paying for his travel to these speaking engagements (especially since most places pay a travel voucher to speakers anyway, so he may even be double-dipping). The part about him being in California while he is "campaigning full-time" is just funny, not sinister. As for Sen. Obama going on vacation, WHO CARES!!!!

obama's running for president, the virgin islands ARE a US territory...so he would be their president.

ryun's just going on vacation.

as to the person who said ryun just needs the money...the tickets to the event are $15...so, he ain't makin' much money if they're payin' him at all.
