Jim Ryun made it official today, filing the papers for his run to take back Kansas' second district seat in Congress.
The Republican Ryun pitched a clean campaign idea to his primary opponent, state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins. Ryun said he'll agree to not mention Jenkins' name in any advertisements if Jenkins will do the same.
In his announcement, Ryun cited Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: "Thou Shall Not Speak Ill of a Fellow Republican."
No word yet on whether Jenkins will accept the deal. She's yet to file for office (filing closes at noon Tuesday).
Ryun, of course, knows full well Jenkins can't agree to such a thing- the only thing she has in her arsenal is the fact Ryun was a piss-poor Member of the United States Congress. With that said, it's always good to set up your opponent to look like a meany...but, really, will anyone anywhere in the district be sympathetic to Jim Ryun if Lynn Jenkins reminds us all for the next several months how miserable he was?
UPDATE: So, it appears Lynn's not only ignoring Ryun's request, she's being as dirty as she can be:"There's no question that Jim is in denial," said Jenkins campaign spokesman Josh Hersh. "Between 2004 and 2006, 60,000 voters chose change over Jim Ryun."This is going to be fun!

lol..the same day lynn's spokesman slams him for being in denial
that's CLASSIC!
Oh Jim...why dont you just roll over already....I wonder how many republicans post on here, and how many read this page?
I'm sorry Nancy that so many of your signatures were found invalid...fraudulent signatures should be accepted!

hahahah after all the "idiot" talk, how about getting Nancy to check over her signatures before turning them in.
Over 15% were frauds
the signatures aren't frauds they were from cacus night and the secretary of state wouldnt count them
at least she tried to file by petition... More than you cansay for Ryun or Jenkins.
Classic. Trying and doing are two different things. How odd. . . .Dems and fake signatures. I'll bet Boyda and her team are also registering "new voters" left and right even as I type.
"Associated Press - June 9, 2008 7:04 PM ET
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Congresswoman Nancy Boyda tried to file for re-election by petition, but her campaign didn't gather enough valid signatures.
The campaign had to pay the full filing fee of $1,672 to the secretary of state's office.
Boyda is a Democrat who represents the 2nd District of eastern Kansas.
She needed the signatures of about 2,400 registered Democrats.
Her campaign gathered about 2,900 signatures, but the secretary of state's office says not enough of them were valid.
Boyda paid the full fee on Friday, instead of getting most of it waived through the petition process. A spokesman for Boyda says the campaign is pleased with the effort to gather signatures."
when republicans don't like the facts, they lie-
but if you call the secretary of state and ask, they'll tell you- it was hundreds of signatures gathered at the Democratic Presidential Caucus- hundreds of newly registered voters.
Yeah ..... you can't sign a petition as a registered voter at the same time you are registering.
shouldn't boyda have known that?
kansas has fucked up election laws...shouldn't voter intent count in cases like this?
One would think the Boyda people would know that you can't use those signatures.
Couldn't they find people who were already registered who were willing to sign the petition?
just like republicans....disenfranchise minorities and young people.
these people had already filled out voter registration forms in order to caucus for president...they aren't bums off the street or dead people...by the time they signed the petition, in their minds they WHERE registered voters.
well when you register to vote there is a review process ..... because you sign up doesn't make you registered
Kind of like filling out an application for a club ..... doesn't make you a member ..... even though you are likely to be approved .... you are not a member the moment you finish application
no one is denying what the law says...i for one am saying the law is bad law.
also no one is saying (or should be saying) these signatures were "frauds"..the people signing were doing do in good faith because they THOUGHT they were registered to vote.
another reason we should have same-day registration in kansas, folks- it could prevent disenfranchisement like this.
Same day voter registration in Kansas? Seriously, how hard is it to register to vote?
yes, same-day registration to vote...it should be the federal norm.
this is evidence of why it should be one the books: young people and minorities came out of the woodwork to participate in the Democratic caucuses in Kansas with thousands of new registrants statewide.
those people, thinking they were registered voters, then signed boyda's petition- exercising their constitutional rights. then, only because kansas laws are bad, they had their signatures thrown out.
that's not how it should be in america
well while we are at it we should eliminate caucuses and only have primaries ..... caucuses disenfranchise the elderly and those have to work during the two hours which caucuses happen
excellent point! caucuses are bad voodoo.
we should have same day voter registration at the primaries, too. and at the general election
well then i guess you could easily show id when you vote .... because i would assume that they drove to the voting site
why would you assume that? It should be easy to vote
Check with your county election official and find out how easy it is to remove someone from the list of eligible voters once a person moves or dies.
(this was a post about ryun being a pussy and not being able to handle lynn jenkins...)
